Bent Knee in the Boston Globe

Happy new year!

Bent Knee’s emphatic crunch and knack for complexity, mixed with lively wit, have aligned it loosely with that most marginalized of genres, progressive rock. Live, the band projects visceral glee, exactingly harmonized and wholly infectious.
Courtney Swain, Bent Knee’s dramatically potent lead vocalist and pianist, delivers emphatic, enigmatic lyrics in a manner that can evoke Björk, Alanis Morissette, or Joanna Newsom while sounding like no one but herself.

Well, this is a real dream come true. Bent Knee was featured in a Boston Globe article yesterday! Last year we had a feature about Secret Dog Brigade in the Globe too, but the circumstances were slightly different. The interview was over the phone, and the show that the article plugged ended up getting cancelled by a big snow storm. This time, we got to sit down for a few hours with the incredible Steve Smith (Boston Globe staff writer, previously with the New York Times and Time Out New York as well), and it looks like we don't have any snow storms brewing for Saturday... :)

Catch us live at Great Scott in Allston, MA. Saturday, January 16th @ 9pm.

We also had a wonderful show in New Haven last night. So far 2016 has been very good for Bent Knee! Though, on a personal level I've felt a sobering nudge from mortality, with the passing of David Bowie and Alan Rickman.

I remind myself that every moment there are babies being born as well as people dying young and old. Most people most of the time our trying their best, and sometimes putting one foot in front of the other is a wonderful achievement on its own, an event worth celebrating.

In the meantime, I'll take Blackstar for another spin.
